Every day we celebrate through prayer our gratitude for all the wonderful things we have. We have puppets that encourage us and enjoy our special words. We also think about those less fortunate than ourselves and practise giving charity each day by putting a penny in the tzedaka box.
Every week there is a Shabbat (Sabbath) Party to which parents, grandparents and friends are warmly invited to attend. Children are very excited to have their turn as Shabbat Ima and Abba (mother and father). Together we light the candles and enjoy the wine and challah bread. We show and celebrate some of the wonderful work the children have achieved during that week and we conclude the Shabbat party with singing and dancing.
Throughout the year the children learn about and celebrate all the Jewish festivals through art and craft, songs and practical experience.
We have our very own shul (synagogue) for Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) in the outdoor wendy house, and a succah (temporary hut) under the climbing frame. We make clay menorahs (candelabra) and latkes (potato pancakes) for Channukah (the Festival of Lights), and love dressing up for Purim and acting out the Pesach (Passover) story.
When there are no holidays we learn about some Torah stories, the Jewish Home and how to make brachot (blessings) on the different foods.
We also introduce the Hebrew alphabet, which some of us can write, and we love baking and eating Mrs Efune’s healthy granary spelt challah.
